In this case it is not the candidate who is breaking the rules. However, I
will refrain from sending out the letter for the time being, however, I must
stress that this situation presents a wholly unfair playing field which we
should not consider to be acceptable.

While I am sympathetic to all you have raised, due to work commitments, I am
afraid I cannot deal with this today. I will however, get back to you
regarding this during tomorrow/possibly this evening..
I must however ask you not to send out a personal e-mail to the membership.
This is not allowed under the rules during an election process.
The European Election Tribunal had to make a ruling regarding similar, in a
case involving London Federation. There is a link to this ruling and much
more that may interest you below.

Firstly I must say that omitting to circle the sentence on the nomination
form was my entire oversight. Possibly because I could not circle it on the
computer, and had to email it to many people in bit of a rush. You will
understand that I was adhering to the original application deadline of March
16th. In any case, I will add right now that I have nothing to declare which
may in law be prejudicial to my position as a candidate or would bring the
party or myself into disrepute.
These unfounded allegations about my distant past have got way out of hand.
I have answered many, many questions to individuals online (through twitter,
facebook, askthegreens, emails and my own blogs), and in each case have given a full answer.
I have been told I have an Israeli passport (no) I have lived in Israel for
7 years (lies) have been an arms dealer (of course not), have been a nuclear
consultant (never, never never), the list is practically endless. I have
also been accused of being a Zionist and an anti-semite (!), and of some
unintelligible dodgy dealings with a company with which I worked 20 years
ago (I was always squeaky clean in business so absolutely nothing on me
there). A Freedom of Information request ( I know of one, there may be
more) was sent to the WG asking them if I had supplied funds to certain
companies whilst working for them, when the reply came back that I had not,
the WG officials were accused of not doing their job properly! The list of
things I have been accused of is almost endless and I am regularly featured
on the Green Left mailing list as if all these horrible, mindless
accusations were true. None, repeat none of them are true. You might as well
say that I flew to the moon, then expect me to prove I did not.
None of the allegations are true.
On one occasion, Max circulated a prepared paper of quite wild allegations
about me to an audience of the UNW. I was giving a talk on Limits to Growth
at the time. The answer I gave him was that I could not possibly be held
accountable for actions taken by a company 16 years after I had left it. Yet
Max continues to perpetrate the unfounded allegations to any who will listen.
None of the allegations are true.
The press have also been involved, as they had been given some sort of tip
off on my apparent past. I have been contacted by journalists, who upon
investigation, have admitted to me that they can find no foundation for
these accusations. No story has ever been made, because there is no story.
However, despite answering every question truthfully, and there being
absolutely no skeletons in my cupboard, I have to put up with the same
questions again and again - and I really do not know why. Yes I am becoming
exasperated. Why? because every time I have to stop and go over this tired
old ground I am not writing a press release, or doing something useful to
forward the aims of the Green Party. Sometimes I think I am put in this
position precisely to stop me doing what I should be doing. Furthermore,
you cannot possibly imagine the personal hurt, and pain to my family all
this has caused. On the occasion that I was accused on Twitter of allowing
some friends to be beaten up in an Israeli airport because somehow I was in
cahoots with the regime, I actually had to console my youngest son who was
distraught with grief and anger upon reading such wicked lies.
None of the allegations are true.
Look. I understand politics. I expect to be put in difficult positions. I
expect to get some flak and I expect to be under scrutiny. But what is going
on right now nothing less than a concerted campaign to smear my good name,
and for no reason that I can think of. Believe me, I have at times wondered
what I have done to these people for them to attack me in such an underhand
and persistent way. I understand why the crazy Zionists attack me, and they
do. But this other attack is from within the Green Party, and I thought we
were all supposed to be pulling together. If the WGPC would like me to stand
down, just say the word and we'll have a vote on it. I do not need to be
going through all this if I'm not wanted.
You may be aware that there is another campaign on Twitter to smear the name
of the WGP also. I had to block the sender because I couldn't stand the
rubbish. I hope you also know that there is a purported Wales Green Party
Blog, which is full of unpleasant malice, and nothing whatsoever to do with
us, despite having our name on it. Now, I don't particularly expect the WGPC
to necessarily support their leader when she is put in this awful position
(though it would be nice to see a bit more solidarity), but I do expect the
WGPC to protect the WGP. But what does the WGPC do about this blog?
For the benefit of this list, I have truthfully and extensively answered
every question put to me (although I must admit that I could not possibly
keep up with the more wild accusations regarding Israel and nuclear
consultancy on twitter which went on endlessly ) and each and every answer
is in the public domain. Max knows this, and should have known this for
almost a year as his partner is the person who has made most of the
unfounded allegations, yet he has chosen to act as if he did not know this.
None of the allegations are true.
The vast bulk of these questions come from 2 people. The rest are anonymous
bar one. The same questions are asked again and again in different fora. I
am all for being scrutinised, but this interrogation has been going on for
almost a year, on an almost daily basis, and really I do not see why I
should be stuck interminably in the position of continually answering the
same questions from the same people. I have stopped answering questions from
anonymous people as you know, because nowadays they tend to be mischievous
bordering on malicious, and always without foundation.
When I was first elected as leader, Penny Kemp (ext comms) asked me for a
full breakdown of everything she might need to know. A full disclosure was
given, and WGPC was copied in at the time.
So I repeat. There are no skeletons in my cupboard whatsoever. I have hidden
nothing. I am not by any means perfect, but you all know what there is to
know. None of the allegations are true.
If anyone in the WGP would like to set up a Q and A meeting for the benefit
of members, I would be happy to attend and give a full account of myself. I
also look forward to all other EU candidates being similarly treated.
