Secretary – Sian Best

Present: John Matthews (Chair), Sian Best (Minutes), Philip Thomas, Anthony Slaughter, Ed Mason, Jack Parker, Gerald Nowell, Chris von Ruhland

1.      Apologies for absence: Paul Atkins, Stella Westmacott,  Paul Westmacott

2.    Minutes of the last meeting – accepted as a true record

3.    Matters arising – Gerald pointed out that 38 degrees have a petition on use of bee-damaging pesticides, available on their website. Anthony said that this Thursday (20th March), there will be a public meeting, on reducing the  speed limit in Penarth streets to 20mph,  at the Windsor Arms, 7pm. The secretary will forward the details to all members.

4.    Officers’ reports – Chair has had letters in the Western Mail on horse meat in supermarket products, bedroom tax, and banking bonuses. He had an interview with a journalist on RCT’s consultation exercise on fracking.  The Secretary said she was struggling to deal with discrepancies in national, regional, local membership records. Treasurer - £1700 in the account: the data protection licence has been paid.

5.     Campaign reports - Paul A’s offer of a video : now the Severn Barrage plan seems to be dead in the water, we need another subject for this project, preferably positive. Paul A is doing a newsletter for Roath and Plasnewydd, Jack and Anthony will do something on Green policies re food, energy, with a local emphasis, for distribution in Penarth.
The 2014 Euro election leaflets need to be planned as there are only 15 months to go. Paul’s proposed electoral strategy, ‘Developing to win’ document had been accepted by WGP council. Nominations for the Wales GP list of candidates closed on 16th March. Members felt Wales should have its own leaflet for Euro elections, the national one may not be appropriate for a Welsh election campaign.

6.    Future social events, etc.  Ed: there will be a CGP members’ social evening on Wednesday 17th April, at The Flora, Cathays Terrace, at 8pm, with our April business meeting at the same venue, in the same evening, at 7pm instead of the usual Monday meeting. One free drink will be available per attendee. ‘Green Party Drinks’! will be advertised on the Members’ website, Facebook, etc.

7.     Any Other Business – Gerald expressed concern about some of the contents of the WGP newsletter, edited by Max Wallis. The Chair reported that the Wales Secretary has contacted Max and told him his behaviour was inappropriate and he should resign his position. Gerald proposed a motion that CGP was appalled by the editor of the WGP’s newsletter’s comments in the last issue and that officers should seek his removal as an WGP officer and expulsion from the GPEW, especially in view of his failure to declare an interest in his comments on AG’s expulsion. Members unanimously supported the motion and chair agreed to pass to Anne Were, the WGP Secretary. Phil Thomas  reminded members about PSC’s demonstrations in the area. -on Tuesday 19 March, there will be a  protest at the BBC on Llantrisant Rd in Cardiff against their lack of reportage on Palestinian hunger strikers. On Thursday 21 March, a submission to the Charity Commission in Newport, will be handed in, as part of an orchestrated national campaign to revoke the charity status of the JNF, the Jewish National Fund .

8.    Date of next meeting – 17th April in The Flora
