I recently received a note from Ann Were – presumably a circular to all Green Party members.  My response to her follows.

Subject:  complaint to Ann Were
Hello Ann,
You have no need to apologise.
With a heavy heart I have rescinded my membership of the Green Party.
I have witnessed at first hand the divisive way in which a small cabal operate within the Cardiff Green Party, and note with horror that some prominent party members exhibit exactly the same kind of juvenile politicking that I thought was the reserve of the mainstream parties.
All of the recent correspondence that I have seen only reinforces my sense of alienation and profound disillusionment with some of the personalities who are driving debates, in a deeply regressive and mind-numbing way.
The fact that the Green Party is such a marginalised politic force generally, and is currently highly unlikely to acquire any real democratic mandate makes this sad situation doubly worse.
Normally it is the prospect of power that corrupts. What excuse do the bickering figures within the local party have, beyond their own obsessive self-serving point-scoring that runs counter to the spirit and philosophical underpinnings of Green politics?
I genuinely believed that the Green Party offered a different paradigm. My experience to date contradicts this assumption completely.
I wish you and your colleagues well in trying to resolve the mess that your email and all the others I have seen, so graphically illustrate.
Yours sincerely,
Christopher Coppock
Ex Green Party Member

Hello Christopher

Over the last couple of months you will have received two Members's Newsletters. I have been asked, by Wales Green Party Council, to write to you to apologise for some of the content of both Newsletters.

The first Newsletter contained a statement and a link to a non Green Party Website which contained inaccurate information regarding a disciplinary procedure carried out by Green Party Regional Council late last year. The second Newsletter contained a link to a false blog relating to one of the candidates in the Euro Elections selection procedure. It also contained an anonymous letter.

Wales Green Party Council feels that the material contained in both newsletters was inappropriate and has subsequently suspended the editor from his position. The ERRO has also suspended the Euro Elections Selection Procedure and his statement for doing so is included below.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and will let you know when the selection procedure will resume. Please do not return your ballot papers at this time.

Many regards

Ann Were
General Secretary
Wales Green Party
