Chair: John Mathews
Secretary: Sian Best

Present:- John Matthews (Chair) Sian Best (Minutes) Anthony Slaughter, Paul Atkins, Oscar, Ken Barker, Chris von Ruhland

Apologies for absence - none

1.  Minutes of the last meeting – as the June meeting was inquorate, the notes taken could not be accepted as a true record.

2.  Matters arising – There will be no single, Wales-wide leaflet for the Euro elections in 2014. John has found someone who has set up automatic links from national and Wales GP websites to the Cardiff web site, so at least it looks active.

3.  Officers’ reports – the Chair said that the Mythbusters leaflet has been printed and is now available for distribution. WGP Council had a tele conference last week about the recent unauthorised WGP newsletter, and the suspension of the editor. It was agreed that GPRC be asked to consider the former editor’s exclusion. Chris as Treasurer reported that there is now a very healthy balance of £2214 in the branch account. Paul as Nominations Officer for CGP and Elections Officer for WGP reported that Cardiff is to have the priority wards in the Euro elections, as preparation for Welsh Assembly elections in which we have a better chance of winning votes. Ward guardians: Oscar volunteered to be Ward guardian for Adamsdown, Sian for Grangetown. We will start by leafleting the 10 key wards we have to concentrate on, if we are to substantially increase our vote. The key wards would be in three categories, i.e. Priority Wards - our strongest ward/s which receive the greatest resources - two of these would be in South Wales Central, probably including Plasnewydd and St Augustine’s, Penarth. Development Wards - wards we need to do some work in to have a realistic chance of winning an assembly seat or increasing our vote at a national elections. Once we have succeeded in our priority wards, these wards will be the next logical areas to focus on. IncubationWards - wards with potential for future development; ward guardians will play a major role in developing these wards, hopefully we should see a gradual improvement in our vote in these areas.  This would mean we can have constituency and regional targets. Paul added that this is a good time for ward targeting, especially in Plasnewydd and/or Cathays, because the students are away, and we will be able to find out who are the voting residents. He has designed a ward survey for Cathays, to be distributed and collected on 28th July.
